Palworld breeding basics that actually matter
Breeding in Palworld is a slot machine you can rig. Here is the cake-to-egg pipeline I use, plus the passive-skill stacking that turns a random pal into a proper workhorse.
Breeding looks like a side activity until the first time a Pal pops out of an egg with three god-tier passives and suddenly your base runs itself. It is the single biggest power spike in Palworld and it costs you almost nothing except cake. So much cake.
Here is the exact loop I use, learned by wasting an embarrassing number of eggs.
§What you need before you start
- A Breeding Farm placed somewhere flat, near your food storage, not halfway up a cliff.
- A Cake in the farm's chest for every egg you want. No cake, no romance.
- Two Pals of opposite gender dropped into the farm pen.
- A Ranch plus Chikipi (eggs), Mozzarina (milk), Beegarde (honey) and wheat plots, so cake stops being a shopping trip.

§The cake pipeline
- 1Plant a Wheat Plantation and assign a Pal with Planting and a Pal with Watering.
- 2Add a Mill so wheat becomes flour without you standing there.
- 3Build a Ranch and park Chikipi, Mozzarina and Beegarde on it.
- 4Put a Cooking Pot next to the storage chest and assign a Kindling Pal with high Handiwork.
- 5Queue cake production and forget about it. Come back to a stack.
§Passive skills are the whole point
Stats matter less than passives. The ones I actually chase:
- Serious / Legend — flat damage and defence, always keep.
- Lucky — work speed plus damage, best all-rounder.
- Artisan and Work Slave — stack these for base Pals and production doubles.
- Swift / Runner / Nimble — stack all three on a mount and traversal stops being a chore.
Passives roll from both parents' pools, up to four per child. So the plan is simple: get two parents that each carry the passives you want, then keep re-breeding the best child back into the line.
- 1Catch or breed a Pal with one good passive.
- 2Breed it with anything carrying a second good passive.
- 3Keep every child that inherits both. Release or box the rest.
- 4Pair those children together and repeat until a four-passive monster falls out.

§Combination charts without the spreadsheet
Every Pal has a hidden breeding power number, and the child is whatever species sits closest to the average of the two parents. Two of the same species always produce that species, which is how you mass-produce a specific Pal once you have a good passive line.
Useful shortcuts I use constantly:
- Same species + same species = guaranteed that species. This is your passive-farming setup.
- Mixing wildly different power levels gives you a middle-tier Pal — usually not what you want.
- Want a specific rare Pal? Look up its two-parent combo, then breed the parents themselves first.
§The base Pals worth building a line for
- Anubis — Handiwork 4, the single best builder. Give it Artisan and Work Slave.
- Jormuntide Ignis — Kindling 4, turns your smelting and cooking into an assembly line.
- Orserk — Electricity for the whole factory floor.
- Blazamut — Mining 4, feeds ore into everything else.
- Faleris / Ragnahawk — flying mounts that make ore runs painless.

§Mistakes I made so you do not have to
- I bred for stats instead of passives for about ten hours. Passives win, every time.
- I left one Pal in the farm and wondered why nothing happened. It takes two.
- I hatched eggs one at a time. Build an Egg Incubator per egg type and run five at once.
- I forgot Incubators want the right temperature. Put a campfire near cold-egg incubators and a cooler near hot ones.
§The short version
Automate cake, breed for passives not stats, pair same-species once you have a good line, and run incubators in parallel. Do that and your base goes from "why is nothing being built" to "why do I have 400 ingots" within a couple of sessions.
